EL PASO, Texas - The father of a missing child whose body was found buried in New Mexico has been charged with injury to a child by omission. He remains lodged in a Texas jail in lieu of a $1.5 million bond.
Jeffrey Farrey, 22, and his wife, Jenna Farrey, 20, of El Paso, Texas, were arrested in Escanaba on Sunday after police located them at the Eagle's Nest Motel. On Friday, the couple and their two sons were reported endangered and missing from their home where a suicide note was found.
The father, a soldier from Fort Bliss Army Base, was held in Delta County Jail on a federal AWOL charge. The mother was lodged on a probation violation relating to a 2012 conviction for abandonment of a child.
Their 19-month-old son, Blake, is under the care of local Child Protective Services. A five-month-old son, Jackson, was not in their custody. His body was found buried in a desert in New Mexico on Wednesday.
Jeffrey Farrey was turned over to military authorities earlier this week. He was booked on Wednesday on the felony count, according to El Paso County Court records.
On Wednesday, Jenna Farrey waived her right to an extradition hearing in Delta County. She remains in the local jail, awaiting extradition to El Paso County.
