BELLAIRE, Mich. - The Rapid River Rockets completed a perfect regular season Friday night, posting a 74-42 eight-man football triumph over the Bellaire Eagles.
Rapid River senior quarterback Jake Pearson ran for four touchdowns and passed for three. He rushed 37 times for 290 yards and completed 13-of-18 aerials for 215 in the Bridge Alliance Conference finale. He also threw for five 2-point conversions.
Pat Pryal snagged four of Pearson's passes for 98 yards, including a 19-yard TD on the final play of the first quarter. He also caught a 23-yard TD aerial and rushed 19 times for 82 yards.
Josh Parrett had three receptions for 85 yards and a TD. David Hough had 27 yards rushing on seven carries and caught four passes for 25, and Mason Berglund added six and one-yard TD runs.
"David had a good defensive game as well," said Rockets' coach Steve Ostrenga. "It was a very interesting game. We had three touchdowns called back due to penalties. They did some real nice things and we had some uncharacteristic penalties, which made for a pretty close ball game."
The Rockets (9-0) grabbed an early 16-0 lead, but Bellaire (5-4) closed within 16-14 in the second stanza.
Bellaire's Chase Small, who threw a TD pass and scored on a punt return, was forced out of the contest with a separated shoulder late in the third quarter.
"Chase had some big plays and they scored in a lot of different ways," said Ostrenga. "This was a big win for the guys."
Rapid River's Alec Miller, Ben Rubick and George Kanyuh recovered fumbles and Pearson had an interception.
The Rockets will learn about their first-round playoff opponent Sunday night.
