ESCANABA - The Escanaba Downtown Development Authority plans to publicly interview two candidates for the position of DDA director later this month, the board decided at its regular meeting Wednesday.

Five applicants were recently interviewed by the personnel committee, which narrowed down the applications, said City Manager Jim O'Toole. He recommended interviewing the top two candidates at a special public meeting.

The DDA plans to schedule the meeting for sometime during the week of Oct. 14.

Judy Schroeder is the DDA's current director, who plans to step down to a part-time position within the agency.

In other business Wednesday, the DDA board discussed hosting a community event at the municipal dock once a month in June, July and August.

Upcoming holiday events were also discussed including Black Friday and the Christmas tree lighting taking place on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. The Christmas Parade is planned for Dec. 6 in downtown Escanaba.

The DDA was given a sneak peak of the authority's upgraded website, which may include customer coupons for downtown businesses. During an update of current projects, Schroeder said five of 10 energy audits have been completed on businesses.

New lights will be installed to improve the lighting on the welcome sign at Lincoln and Ludington, she added. Funding for flowers at this intersection was also discussed.
