Jeanette M. Schoen

BARK RIVER - Jeanette M. Schoen, 83, N18254 Co Rd 551, Bark River, passed away on Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at OSF St. Francis Hospital.

She was born on May 23, 1930, in Iron River, daughter of Andrew and Pauline (Dudek) Baron. Jeanette was the youngest of eight children.

She graduated from Kelly High School and started work at Illinois Bell Telephone Company in the accounting department. She continued her education with evening classes at Janes Commercial taking advanced classes in math and business machines. While at Illinois Bell Telephone Company she taught a class for women in the business world called "Design for Living." Jeanette played on the company's volleyball team between departments for four seasons.

She was an avid reader and greatly appreciated her friends supplying her with reading material. Wanting to learn more about the country where her parents were born got her started in collecting Poland stamps, then also collecting U.S. stamps.

After teaching herself to sew, she started making clothes for her family and later making quilts which are still cherished by family members.

She is survived by her children, Susan (Jerry) Schoen and Kenneth (Sandra) Schoen; granddaughter, Rachael Schoen; grandsons, Charles (Cheryl) Detiege and Chris (Nicki) Detiege; great-grandchildren, Brooke, Brennon and Allison Detiege; sister-in-law, Mary Baron, Sally Baron of Hickory Hills, Ill., and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jeanette was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; parents, Andrew and Pauline Baron; her mother and father-in-law, Chester and Myrtle Schoen; brothers, Max, Chester, and Edwin Baron; sisters, Stella O'Brien, Wanda Rogers, Julia Ruzyla; nephews, Daniel Baron and Jack Rogers; brothers-in-law, A.J. Rogers, John O'Brien and Rudy Ruzyla.

Visitation will be on Friday, Sept. 27, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Bark River. The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Emmett Norden officiating.

Entombment will be in Gardens of Rest Mausoleum.

The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the Schoen family.
