ESCANABA - With the Gwinn Modeltowners rolling into town Monday afternoon, the Escanaba Eskymos adjusted their tennis lineup to reward their depth players. The move paid off, as Esky came out strong, securing a 7-1 victory.

Kayla VanPortfliet moved from No. 3 to No. 2 and Hannah Beversluis moved up to No. 3 from No. 4. Both won their matches, Beverluis in straight sets over Haylee Lakenen and VanPortfliet in a three-set match (6-4, 4-6, 6-2) over Maddie Forrester. At No. 4 singles, Makayla Houle earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Payton Luokkala.

"I thought that Kayla and Hannah did a wonderful job of keeping their composure when things weren't going their way," said Esky coach Dennis Lueneberg.

Esky’s Audrey Wilson returns the ball in No. 2 doubles action against Gwinn Monday night at Escanaba high school.

"We adjusted our lineup to give those kids that have been coming to practice and working at their games an opportunity to play a varsity match," Lueneberg continued. "They all took advantage of their situation and performed well."

All four doubles teams won their matches in straight sets, led by Rebecca Clark and Angie LaMarche at No. 3, who rolled with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Emma Hohman and LeAnn Brilkker.

Esky's lone loss came at No. 1 singles where usual No. 2 Anna Burch played, Monday. Gwinn's Brooke Luokkala recovered after the first set and won in three (2-6, 6-1, 6-1).
