Many women from the Upper Peninsula and Northern Wisconsin journeyed by bus to LaCrosse, Wis., to attend the 50th anniversary convention of the Lutheran Women's Missionary Society (LWMS). A record crowd of more than 2,000 women attended the convention. A number of local ladies enjoyed the idea of using the 50-year convention as an added feature and dressed according to the "era." Pictured in their attire are: Carri Dolensky, Jan Baker, Camille Blakeslee, Helen Herbst, and Lori Flath, all members of Salem Lutheran Church in Escanaba; Jacki Stoll, new president of the local LWMS Circuit; Debbie Peterson and Linda Robinson, St. Paul's Lutheran in Hyde; Lollie Dalbert and Nancy Hansen, St. Mark's Lutheran in Wallace.
Sporting their new hats from the 1950s and 60s are women from the Lake Superior Circuit: kneeling from left, Helen Herbst, Deb Peterson, Pat Klienno, Gail Maxwell, in Powers; and unidentified. In back are: Lollie Dalbert, Lori Flath, Sylvia Rose, Joyce Miller, Joyce Czewin, Lorraine Kerr, unidentified, Linda Robinson, Jackie Stall, and Arlene ? Not available for photo were Sally Gustafson, Yvonne Sevila, Carolyn Lynch, and Ruth Carlson. A $2,000 grant was received from Thrivent for Lutherans to help defray the cost of the bus trip.
