MANISTIQUE - Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital will soon be under the leadership of a new chief executive officer.
During a special meeting on Aug. 28, the board approved a three-year contract with Tanya Hoar for the position of CEO and chief financial officer. Hoar will replace George Montgomery, who has held the CEO position for the past five years. Hoar will also fill the open CFO position.
Montgomery, who is of retiring age, announced his intent to retire in August with an effective date at the end of September.
"Our specific goal (when Montgomery was hired) was building a new hospital," said Board Chair Don Perigo. "He can retire with a feather in his cap for sure."
Hoar has a history with the board and is no stranger to the CFO position. She held the position for about 15 years before leaving a year-and-a-half ago. While the position was temporarily filled, the hospital has been functioning without a CFO for the past seven months.
"Our CEO position came open and we knew Tanya has a proven track record ... We are very excited to have her back," said Perigo, adding Hoar was the hospital's first choice to fill the CEO position.
Hoar will become the hospital's CEO and CFO effective Nov. 1. While the contract is for the next three years, Perigo believes she will remain with the hospital beyond the length of her contract.
"We anticipate her being here a long time," he said.
Perigo also noted Hoar was involved in the strategic planning and fundraising for the new hospital facility, which opened last April.
"She brings some talent back with her," he said.
