Binge drinking carries huge cost

Excessive alcohol use cost Michigan $8.2 billion in 2006, or about $2.16 a drink, according to a new study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Binge drinking, which is defined as consuming five or more drinks on an occasion for men or four or more drinks on an occasion for women, was responsible for 74.2 percent of excessive alcohol use related costs.
