Sweet Home Escanaba

July 3, 2013
Daily Press

EDITOR:

After reading the recent Detroit News article about Escanaba, I was inspired to pen the lyrics to a song, which can be sung to the tune of Lynard Skynard's "Sweet Home Alabama." The readers have my permission to copy or perform.

Sweet Home Escanaba

(Lyrics by Mark Ryan)

(sing to the tune of Sweet Home Alabama by Lynard Skynard)

Four wheels keep on turnin'

Cross the bridge and West on 2.

Dirty cities are behind me.

A U.P sunset in my view.

Sweet home Escanaba

Where skies are blue

Sweet home Escanaba

Lord I'm comin' home to you.

On Ludington, we love the Bike Shop.

Stone's Deli, Rosy's, Bobaloon's.

Window shop and get a haircut.

In the park there's lots to do.

Sweet home Escanaba

Where skies are blue

Sweet home Escanaba

Lord I'm comin' home to you.

Wintertime brings cold and snowfall.

Skates and snowshoes, ice jigs too.

And if it gets to be too much

You know your neighbor's helping you.

Sweet home Escanaba

Where skies are blue

Sweet home Escanaba

Lord I'm comin' home to you.

The Bonifas puts on some good shows.

Summertime brings sun and fun.

Hike a trail or host a bonfire.

The good times here are never done.

Sweet home Escanaba

Where skies are blue

Sweet home Escanaba

Lord I'm comin' home to you.

The Detroit News, they wrote about us.

Mister Donnelly put us down.

Well I hope Ol' Frank will remember

The Yooper man don't need youz 'round *

Sweet home Escanaba (oh sweet home)

Where skies are blue (and the bay is too)

Sweet home Escanaba

Lord I'm comin' home to you.

*Just kidding Mr. Donnelly. Come on back and have another look.
