ESCANABA - Lee Wayne Jeffries, 50, passed away Friday, June 21, 2013, at St. Francis Hospital following a courageous battle with colon cancer. He was born on Dec. 3, 1962, in Gwinn, Mich., at K.I. Sawyer Air force Base to parents Robert and JoAnn (Platts) Jeffries.
Lee attended school in Escanaba and was a member of the graduating Class of 1981. Following high school, he began his employment career as a disc jockey at WDBC/WYKX radio stations and remained there for 10 years. In 1991 he changed his occupation and became a professional over the road truck driver first with J.B. Hunt and then for Schneider National Carriers where he remained until he was unable to work due to his illness.
On March 26, 1988, Lee married the former Cecile Cabanaw.

Lee was a wonderful son, father, and friend. His greatest joy in life was his family and spending quality time with them.
He is survived by: father, Robert Jeffries, Ford River; daughter, Kasey Jeffries, Escanaba; sons, Alex Jeffries, Escanaba, and Zachary Jeffries, Escanaba; brothers, Robert (Valerie) Jeffries, Little Falls, Minn., and Glen (Teri) Jeffries, Rice Lake, Wis.; several nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, JoAnn Jeffries, and brother, Steven Jeffries.
A gathering of family and friends celebrating the life of Lee Wayne Jeffries will take place on Tuesday, June 25, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Burial will take place in the West Ford River Cemetery.
