St. Francis de Sales Catholic School student, Carson Lagina, a student in Melissa Wood's fifth-grade class was the third-place winner in the "Feed the Pig" contest. The contest was sponsored by the Federal Reserve Bank. Carson is pictured at left with James Studinger, vice president of the Michigan Jump Start Coalition who helped sponsor the contest. Money Smart Week is a public awareness campaign designed to introduce students to responsible financial decision making. Students were instructed to go online and play the "Feed the Pig" video game and learn what it takes to succeed at saving. They then were to discuss their method of winning with their teacher and write down the top three important items learned. Then they had to create a catchy bookmark of what they learned. For his win, Carson was awarded a Kindle Fire.
