As Harbor Hideout playground in Ludington Park marks its 20th anniversary, members of the Children's Committee for the Esky 150 surveyed area children and had builders design a float with a replica of Harbor Hideout, based on the youngsters' favorite parts of the structure. The project was recently unveiled and the backyard playset on the float will be raffled off on July 10 during the Esky 150 celebration. Ben Johnson, a first-grade student at Lemmer Elementary School, is pictured at the "helm" in the loft of the replica. On the swings are Megan Fritz, left, a Soo Hill School second-grader, and Karly Van Drese, a sixth-grader at the Upper Elementary School. Tickets for the raffle are $5 each or six for $20. They are available at the Escanaba Chamber of Commerce where the float will be on display until it is raffled off.
Karly Van Drese models a t-shirt imprinted with the design she created in commemoration of the Harbor Hideout anniversary and 150 Esky celebration. She was the winner in a design contest that was held for elementary school students throughout the Escanaba School District.
