Tall ships focus of festival

June 7, 2013
Daily Press

EDITOR:

On Friday and Saturday, July 12-13, as part of the Esky 150 celebration, we will be holding the Maritime Festival in the boat harbor. The focus of our past festivals has been the tall ships, like those that filled our bay 150 years ago. If you've ever wished you could go sailing on a wonderful 77-foot, two masted schooner, your wish can come true, on one of the five, three hour sail-aways, aboard the S/V Island Seas. The cost of this maritime "flight of fancy" is only $10/adult, $5 for those under 12.

This summer 13 plus cities will be playing host to tall ship festivals as the Great Lakes celebrate the bicentennial of Adm. Perry's victory over the British on Lake Erie, ending the War of 1812.

To show you what a bargain the Esky 150 sail-aways are, check out the cost of the 90 minute or two hour sail-aways in Duluth at www.visitduluth.com/tallships2013 or Green Bay at www.tallship.greenbay.com. Duluth is charging $95 for two hours; Green Bay is asking $75 for 90 minutes. And our entire festival is free to enjoy - no 'walk-around' fee.

To book your sail-away, call Mollie Larson at the Bonifas Arts Center, at 786-3833.
