North Dickinson was led by junior Tim Hruska, who won the 100-meter dash in 16.06 seconds, 110 hurdles (11.91) and 300s (43.11) and was runner-up in the 200 (24.25).

"Tim did pretty much everything he was supposed to do," said Nordics' coach Mike Lindholm. "We're hoping the 200 will go better for him at the U.P. (Division 3) Finals. Overall, we're very happy with the results. Our guys competed very well. We saw where we could finish in the Finals, and the guys seem to be real excited. I think the Finals will be wide open."

North Dickinson's Logan O'Neil took pole vault at 11 feet, one inch, took second in the 300 hurdles (43.69) and helped the winning 400 relay. Blake Lindeman, also a part of that relay, added a first in long jump (18-8 1/4).

Rapid River junior Jake Pearson won the 200 (24.07) and discus (136-9 1/2) and took second in the 100 at 12 seconds flat.

"Nobody had personal bests in the 200," said Pearson. "It was all about placing today. I felt I had a pretty good start in the 200. My best throw today in discus was nothing special. Although, I'm glad I got first. That was huge. My times and distances will have to be better at the Finals."

Freshman Dan Blair added victories in the 1600 (4:59.67) and 3200 (11:11.37) and senior Zac Dominique captured the 800 (2:14.46). Both also helped the Rockets take the 3200 relay.

"Dan had a great day, and Jake and Dominique had nice meets," said Rockets' coach Steve Ostrenga. "Also, our 1600 relay took four seconds off. I'm happy with that whole team. I thought our kids ran hard. North Dickinson had a nice meet. They were tough today. Four places in the 300 hurdles was huge for them. It's hard to compete with 26 points in one race."

Slightly more than two weeks ago, Rapid River won its own invitational by topping 117-101.

"We didn't have Cody Berg at Rapid River," said Faust. "He's a huge part of our team.

Berg was runner-up in long jump (18-7 1/2) and 400 (54.61) and took fourth in shot put (43-1 1/2) this time.

Mid Pen senior Brett Branstrom won high jump at six feet and shot put with a school-record heave of 49-7 and was runner-up in discus (135-4).

Pearson was runner-up in shot (45-3 1/2) and junior teammate Hayden Hardwick was third (43-11 1/4).

Forest Park's Derek Aberly took the 400 (53.8) and anchored the winning 1600 relay.

Area teams are idle until June 1 when the visit Kingsford for the U.P. Finals.
