The digital age and sexual assault

April is Sexual Assault Awareness month. Sexual assault is defined as a person being threatened, coerced, or forced to engage in a sexual act or sexual touching against their will. According to the Justice Department, someone is sexually assaulted in the U.S. every two minutes. Stop and think about just how often that is. In the hour many of us have lunch, 30 people have been damaged by an assault on their body, mind, and possibly their soul. More staggering statistics that many of us may not be aware: 44 percent of victims are under the age of 18, 54 percent of sexual assaults are not reported to the police, and approximately two-thirds of all assaults are committed by someone known to the victim.
