MARQUETTE - Brett Branstrom, the Most Valuable player of the Skyline and Central U.P. Conferences and a back-to-back All-State selection, is now the Class D Player of the Year as selected by the Upper Peninsula Sportswriters and Sportcasters Association Wednesday afternoon at their annual meeting in Marquette.

Branstrom wrapped up his career as a Mid Peninsula Wolverine in dominating fashion, averaging 25.2 points and 21.1 rebounds per game. In his final game against North Central, he netted 41 points, 17 rebounds and four blocks.

He was also selected as the Bankhoops.com Class D Player of the Year in Michigan. Branstrom is currently being recruited by Division II Michigan Tech and Lake Superior State as well as Division III St. Norbert.

With 1,785 points, he topped Bark River-Harris' Brock Bower (1,737) as the area's all-time scoring leader. He also finished with 1,311 career rebounds and 410 blocks, averaging nearly five rejections per game.

Negaunee's Tyler Jandron coasted in as the Class A-B-C Player of the Year selection. Jandron, a 6-foot-1 junior, helped to lead the Miners to the Class C state semifinal game with 18.1 points, 4.3 steals, and 3.8 assists per game. He is a 56 percent shooter from the field, and was chosen as the Mid Peninsula Conference's Most Valuable Player. He also earned an All-State Class C nod.
