FORT MYERS, Fla. - Marge Baker passed away on March 10, 2013, in Fort Myers, Fla. of Pulmonary Fibrosis. She was 79 years old.
Marge was born in Gladstone in 1933, the daughter of Harvey and Nellie Cowell. She graduated from Gladstone High in 1951 and attended Augustana Nursing School in Chicago. She made her career as a nurse with several physician's offices in the U.P.
In 1957, she married Charles Baker of Escanaba. They moved to Florida in 1962 and she began working for The Lee County School District in Fort Myers. She worked there until retiring in 1995.

Marge was active her entire life volunteering to teach kids to read, leading a Brownie troop, playing Canasta and traveling. After being diagnosed with Pulmonary Fibrosis, she became a vocal advocate for researching the disease and started a local support group in 1999, which she led for eight years.
Marge is survived by her daughters, Tina Dumar and Melissa Rathgeber; four grandchildren; her nieces, Kathy Cowell and Patty Ramspeck; and her nephew, Billy Buchmiller.
