Gun control and false claims

January 31, 2013
Daily Press

EDITOR:

The M-16 (M-4) used by the military is full automatic and not the same as the civilian made and sold AR-15. AR-15s, like the one made by Bushmaster, are semi automatic which means one trigger pull equals one round discharged. The military does not nor have they ever used AR-15s as they are purely made and sold for civilian use. They are used in various game hunting, like coyotes and also various shooting competitions.

Semi automatic sporting rifles which is the correct terminology for these type of civilian rifles, make up less than 2 percent of total gun murder and crime. The media uses scare tactics and labels them "assault rifles" to paint a false picture of the issue. As far as Sandy Hook, I don't think any of us know what was used or what really happened as there are so many different official stories and reports. Many semi automatic rifles and handguns have a magazine capacity greater than 10 rounds and these are not high capacity magazines. They are standard capacity magazines that the firearm was designed with. Again, media disinformation to confuse or trick the public. I'm not going to elaborate on my opinions here, I just wanted to set some false claims that were made straight.

PS: The Second Amendment has nothing to do with hunting.
