ESCANABA - It came down to less than one point, but the Negaunee Miners put together enough points to edge the Escanaba Eskymos gymnastics team 144.15 to 113.58.

"As a team, we did really well," said Negaunee coach Eyre Becker. "We had a couple great beam routines, some good floor routines and scores. They are really hitting their paces this time of year, and our seniors are really doing exceptionally well."

Escanaba's Erin Mattson continued her team dominance, taking first place in floor, vault, bars, and all-around. She also placed second on the balance beam.

Escanaba’s Erin Mattson goes through her routine on the balance beam Monday, in Escanaba. The Eskymos fell just short to Negaunee, with a score of 113.58 to Negaunee’s 114.15.

"I had some solid routines, especially in floor, and I think we did really good overall," Mattson said. "A lot of new people stepped up in some new events."

Escanaba's coach, Theresa Pascoe, was excited with her team's continued success over the course of the season.

"I'm very happy with the score we came away with," she said. "We narrowed the margin quite a bit with Negaunee. We're making strides every day, and our scores are continuing to go up."
