Bernice Olinda Hannemann

ESCANABA - Bernice Olinda Hannemann, 92, of 1204 12th Ave. South, Escanaba, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, at the NEWCare Residence in Crivitz, Wis. She was born on Nov. 2, 1920 in Embarrass, Wis., and was the daughter of Emil and Olga (Graper) Schulz. Bernice was a graduate of Tigerton High School in Tigerton, Wis., and then continued her education at the Actual Business College in Appleton, Wis.

On June 1, 1946, the former Bernice Schulz married Gerald Hannemann at St. John's Lutheran Church in Tigerton, Wis. Gerald preceded her in death on March 21, 1989.

Bernice was employed in the accounting department at the Aid Association for Lutherans Insurance Company (now Thrivent) in Appleton, Wis., for many years. She then relocated to Escanaba and began her new career as an office manager and receptionist at Doctors Park Family Physicians working there for 24 years until her retirement. Bernice was a member of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Escanaba. She served as a church organist from age 11 until age 88.

Bernice is survived by: children, Rev. Mark (Bonnie) Hannemann of Crivitz, Wis.; Paula (Bryan) Buermele of Canton, Mich.; Faith (Bruce) Butch of Appleton, Wis.; Linda (Gary) Hall of Bowling Green, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sister, Ruby Krahn, Birmingham, Mich.

She was preceded in death by her parents Emil and Olga, husband Gerald, and sister Cordella Schulz.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at the Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 615 South 30th St., from 10 a.m. to noon.

Funeral services celebrating the life of Bernice Olinda Hannemann will follow the visitation with Pastor Paul Doletzky officiating. Burial will take place in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery. A luncheon will be served at the conclusion of the funeral service in the church fellowship hall.
