Trial scheduled for April in Bessemer slaying

BESSEMER - A jury trial has been scheduled for a Bessemer man accused of murdering his wife and then reporting her missing last August.

Kenneth Wayne Peters, 50, of Bessemer, was arrested on homicide charges after the body of his wife, Ethel Grzena/Peters, 79, was found in Watersmeet Township on Aug. 13. Grzena/Peters was a former resident of Delta County.

Peters was charged with: first-degree murder/multiple theories, a life felony; second-degree murder, a life felony; and second-degree abuse of a vulnerable adult, a four-year felony.

During a pretrial conference held in Gogebic County Circuit Court on Friday, a trial was scheduled for Peters on April 11. Jury selection will begin on April 8.

Peters remains lodged in Gogebic County Jail without bond.
