The Daily Press is giving back to the community this Sunday.
For the third year, your newspaper is bringing you The Daily Press Back-to-School & Children's Health Fair. This is an event designed to provide children and adults alike a pleasant, fun-filled day of activities leading up to the start of the school year. You can take part Sunday at the Northern Lights YMCA in Escanaba from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
If past years hold true, it will attract quite a crowd. The event proved popular its first year and grew even larger the second year. This year, we at The Daily Press are expecting that trend to continue.
The event started out with humble beginnings we wanted to host an event that would make parents aware of new immunization requirements for school back in 2010. We approached various businesses and organizations in the community to see if they were interested in joining us by providing a fun and resource-filled day for children and their parents. We received overwhelming support. The event and that support has grown since then.
Immunizations are offered - an so much more. The event is filled with games, activities and contests fro children and teens. They range from a karaoke contest, distracted driving test, obstacle courses, demonstrations and much, much more. Best of all (with the exception of immunizations), everything is free - even lunch. Pizza is being provide by Papa Murphys and refreshments by Bink's Coca-Cola to everyone at no cost.
There are not many places that can offer this much - and lunch - free to area families. It is The Daily Press way of saying "thank you" to the community we live in, love and support. The Daily Press, however, cannot bring this event to you with the help of many others. Major sponsors of the Back-to-School-Fair are the Daily Press, Elmer's County Market, EMP, the National Guard, Marquette General, Papa Murphy's, the Northern Lights YMCA, and OSF St. Francis Hospital. Other sponsors who will be at the event include Delta County Credit Union, Dickinson County Healthcare Escanaba SDA Christian School, Gladstone Eye Care, Halbinsel Volkswagen Mazda, HealthQuest, Holy Name Catholic School, Marquette General Health Systems, the Michigan National Guard, Peninsula Federal Credit Union, Positively, and UPPCO.
