Flat Rock couple celebrates 50 years of marriage

FLAT ROCK - Ronald F. Smith and the former Luella Plouff were married 50 years ago on Sept. 23, 1961, at Holy Family Church in Flat Rock.

Standing with the couple were Beverly (Plouff) Beauchamp, Judy (Rudden) Sarasin, Bonnie (Plouff) Sodergren, Linda (Smith) Roberts, Cindy Eagle (flower girl), Bill Smith, Bill Plouff, Ray Caron, the late Robert Beauchamp and Barry Severinsen (ring bearer).

The couple celebrated with an anniversary Mass at Holy Family Church. Family and friends joined with the couple at a reception held in their honor at the Mead Rod & Gun Club. The reception was hosted by the couple's children.

Luella and Ronald Smith

Ronald retired in 2002 from Mead Paper after 38 years.

Luella retired in 2004 from Escanaba Township after serving as treasurer for 32 years.

Both are members of Holy Family Parish.

The couple are the parents of three children - Tammy (Dave) McMillan of Escanaba, Scott (Jane) Smith of Gladstone and Steve (Jean) Smith of Elkhart, Ind.

Their 11 grandchildren are: David McMillan Jr., Brian McMillan, Mindi Smith, Kayli Taylor, Heidi, McGowan, Rachel Coyne, Michael Coyne, Kelly Coyne, Jennifer Smith, Stephanie Smith and Jamie Smith. They also have four great-grandchildren.

The couple are at home in Flat Rock and also spend winters in Lady Lake, Fla.
