BARK RIVER - On Oct. 8, Lawrence J. Murray and the former Joan S. Severinsen will celebrate 50 years of marriage. The original 11 a.m. ceremony took place at St. Francis Xavier Church in Spalding with Fr. Walter Franczek presiding.
The couple's parents are the late Lawrence F. and Gladys V. (LaCosse) Murray and the late Chester P. and Charlotte H. (Nygaard) Severinsen.
Matron of honor and best man were Mary (Jamar) and Donald Casperson Jr., both friends of the bride and groom. Bridesmaids were Nancy (Severinsen) Laundre, sister of the bride, and Sharon "Chickie" (Murray) Neveau, sister of the groom. Groomsmen were Floyd Savoie, friend of the groom, and Robert Whitens, brother-in-law of the groom. Guests were seated by the late Israel Marenger, brother-in-law of the bride, and Terry Murray, cousin of the groom.

Joan retired from U.P. TransComm/Public Service Employees Credit Union of Escanaba in 1996. She is an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Escanaba, Tin Lizzies Red Hat and Classie Lassies Red Hat groups. Along with her husband, she is a founding member of the U.P. Vintage Tin Car Club. Joan enjoys shopping, crafts and reading.
Lawrence was owner/operator of Larry's Texaco, then Larry's Service of Escanaba for 34 years, retiring in 1997. He has been a member/usher of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Bark River. He enjoys going to camp and restoring antique cars.
The Murrays are the parents of three children, Timothy (Shelli) Murray of Gladstone, Sherry (Michael) Macfarlane of Gladstone and Thomas (Mary) Murray of Bark River. Their 10 grandchildren are: Bryan (Coria) DeGrave, Kimberly (Patrick) Mahoney, Timothy "TJ" Murray Jr., Michael (Regina) Murray, Ian and Lauren Macfarlane, Jeremy and Jamie Murray, and Jacob and Hannah Micheau. They also have five great-grandchildren; Mason, Hailey, Cerena, Collin and Gracie.
A reception/dinner for Joan and Larry was held Sept. 25 at the Terrace Bay Inn.
