ESCANABA - First Presbyterian Church (FPC) in Escanaba invites the public to attend the final recital in a four-part series offered in celebration of the sanctuary organ renovation project's completion. The event will begin at 7 p.m. Friday and will feature four local organists and two church ensembles.
Among the lineup of talents that comprise the final concert is organist Sally Briggs, who was born and raised in Escanaba. A pianist in her youth, she took organ lessons from Esther Fernstrom, and was organist at FPC from 1960-61. Sally has been a frequent substitute organist on many occasions thereafter. She is active in the church and in elder care ministries in the community.
Organist Betty Lundin is a lifelong resident of Escanaba. She has taught piano privately for 42 years. She was the organist at FPC in the 1980s and was also the staff organist at the former St. Patrick's church. She is a current member of St. Anne's church, where she is active in many of their ministries including filling in as a substitute organist, as needed.
Organist Dale Nyberg was music director and organist/pianist at two churches in the Green Bay area, where he resided for 24 years. Recently retired from the Food and Drug Administration, Dale and his family have relocated to Delta County, where he continues his music ministry.
Miriam Kast White is the current organist at FPC, a position she has held for the past 3 years. Primarily a pianist, Miriam has music degrees from the Oberlin Conservatory and the University of Michigan. She and her husband, Scott, pastor at FPC, have been in Escanaba for six years. They have three children - Elliot, Teresa and Anthony.
The First Bells and the Sanctuary Choir have each gained renown in the community under the leadership of FPC Music Director D. Ann Wood. Both will offer music featuring the new instrument of the Lauck Pipe Organ Company.
The general public is encouraged to attend the free concert at 819 1st Ave. S. in Escanaba.
A reception with light refreshments will follow this one-of-kind concert.
