Universalists offer spiritual workshop

POSTED: November 7, 2009

ESCANABA - Spiritual counselor Tahnahga Meyers will present a spiritual growth workshop entitled "Exploring the Sacred Within" beginning 1 p.m. Sunday at the William Bonifas Fine Arts Center.

She will help participants to journey within to explore the "sacred seeds" given to us by our ancestors, learn to cultivate them and help them to sprout.

Tahnahga is a Native American poet, writer and artist who is also a spiritual counselor. She is Mohawk, Ojibwa, and Taino (indigenous people of Puerto Rico) and is the granddaughter and student of Keewaydinoquay, a famous scholar, medicine woman, teacher and author.

Tahnahga, a social worker by training, has worked with chemically dependent clients as well as patients with HIV and Aids. She has a degree in rehabilitation counseling. She has run many workshops and training sessions on Spiritual Growth topics.

This spiritual workshop is sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Bay de Noc.

Also taking place Sunday, during the regular 10:30 a.m. service, Dr. Brian Black, Bay de Noc Community College instructor, will present "Spirituality in the Natural World." A potluck lunch will follow, prior to the 1 p.m. spiritual growth workshop. A freewill collection will be taken to help defray the costs of the workshop.

The public is invited to any or all of the events of the day. The UUs do not believe in a specific doctrine or dogma, but encourage an individual search for spiritual truth and meaning and welcome people of diverse beliefs and backgrounds. Use the parking lot entrance to the arts center.
