Dittrich - Myllyla

ESCANABA - Kenneth and Rose Myllyla of Escanaba recently celebrated their golden anniversary at a reception held in their honor, hosted by their children at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Escanaba. The couple was also treated to a Holland Alaskan cruise in July, which was planned and attended by their children. An anniversary church service with a renewal of wedding vows was presided over by the cruise ship's captain and was followed by champagne reception in Captain's Lounge.

The former Rose Dittrich, of Hyde, became the bride of Ken Myllyla, of Arnheim, Mich., Aug. 15, 1959. The two took said their vows during a wedding ceremony officiated by Rev. James Hanson at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hyde.

Rose was attended by: college roommate Doloris Wedding; Florence Bessonen, sister of the groom; and Carolyn Brightsman, friend of the bride. Flower girl was Donna Aho, cousin of the groom.

Attending Ken were: Melvin Myllyla, brother of the groom; and friends of the groom Ray Peters and Arne Anderson. Ring bearer was Dennis Myllyla, brother of the groom.

Ken retired as principal of Jefferson and Franklin schools in 1990.

Rose retired as a teacher in the Business Department at Escanaba Area High School in 1991.

Through the years, Ken has served in the following organizations/capacities: Past Lt. Gov. Kiwanis, Onbudsmen volunteer, president of Sports Sages, MARSP Board member, Kiwanis District Foundation Board member, Treasurer of Delta Council on Aging, and UPCAP Advisory Council and Management Board member. In addition, Ken was also a sports official for Michigan High School and College Sports for 50 years, and was an active member of Esky Fan Club and Blue Line Club. Ken enjoys having morning coffee with his friends at Rosey's Diner in downtown Escanaba. He also follows his grandson Casey's hockey games at Escanaba Area High School.

Rose has also been active, serving as a MARSP member, Onbudsmen volunteer, and OSF Auxiliary volunteer. She has also served as Historian for Delta Kappa Gamma.

Ken and Rose are members of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Ken and Rose are the parents of three children - Mary Myllyla, Yuma, Ariz.; Jane Collegnon, Escanaba; and Jim (Shelly) Myllyla, Kingsford.

In addition, they have four grandchildren - Cassandra and Casey Collegnon, and Kalyn and Cole Myllyla.
