ESCANABA - Dr. Gary and Carol Shiplett recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. The former Carol Harris became the bride of Gary Shiplett June 11, 1959, at First United Methodist Church in Daytona Beach, Fla.
The anniversary was celebrated during two separate occasions. In May, the couple gathered with their two daughters and their husbands and children at the beach in Nags Head, N.C. In June, the couple held a second gathering at their home on the Ford River, where they entertained close friends.
A highlight at both events was the reading of letters written by family members and friends, sharing memories they had made with the couple through the years. Letters were received from friends in several foreign countries and many states, in addition to the local area. These memories were placed in a small "treasure chest" because, as the couple announced, the treasures of their lives are their family and friends.
