Area youth pitchers combine for no-hitters

ESCANABA - Shared no-hitters were the order of the day in youth softball and baseball Monday.

Sam Connor and Alexis St. Cyr combined to pitch a no-hitter Monday in the Escanaba Girls Major softball league.

They also combined for 11 strikeouts as Ward's Auto Body defeated IMS 6-2, with IMS scoring on passed balls. Connor, St. Cyr, Shelby Gregoire and Courtney Cunningham had multiple hits for Ward's.

In the Gladstone Junior-Senior baseball league, five Ness Contracting hurlers combined in a no-hit game stopped after 4 innings. The score and losing team were not reported.

Jake Pearson, Lorenzo Sarasin, Christian Groleau, Sam Pouliot and Max Mahoney also combined to strike out 11 batters. Mahoney also had three hits while Pearson, Hayden Hardwick, Dustin Gogolin and Emmit Kleikamp had two.

U.P. Sport clipped Bink's Coca Cola 7-1 as John Rappette and Rich Hubert combined on a three-hitter in Gladstone Major League.

Hubert, Zack Winkelbauer, Riley Pajnich and Tyler Fox had key hits for U.P. Sport. Jacob Koish, Kyle Johnson and Andrew Kausak had the hits for Bink's.
