ESCANABA - An ATV/ORV safety class is slated for Sunday, March 22, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Pocket Park Green Building of the U.P. State Fairgrounds. Certified Michigan Department of Natural Resources instructor Tim Kobasic will lead the class.
The classes are made available free of charge through the Michigan Sheriff's Association and the DNR. All class materials are free of charge.
The are no age restrictions and the class is mandatory for anyone under the age of 16. However, it is suggested to only enroll those children who are able to comprehend the criteria and take a written test. Any child who will not be 12 before the end of this year must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who is at least 18. Students with learning disabilities can be assisted in the written test. Students are encouraged to bring a bag lunch and drink with them.
There is a limit of 35 students per class. Walk-ins will be accepted on a space-available and first-come basis.
