Mattson - Jones

ESCANABA - The former Alice Mattson and Gene Jones were united in marriage 60 years ago in Escanaba. The ceremony took place Oct. 16, 1948, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Escanaba, with Rev. Gustav Lund officiating.

Betty Walters, friend of the bride, served as maid of honor. The late Winifred Britton, also a friend of the bride, was bridesmaid. Best man was the late Robert Jones, brother of the groom. The late Clarence Britton, friend of the groom, stood as groomsman.

In 1985, Gene retired from Sears, following 27 years of employment. He is a lifelong member of the American Legion, DAV and AmVets, and also belongs to the Eagles Club.

Alice was a homemaker and belongs to the Eagles Club.

Together they raised three children - Thomas R. (Joy) Jones of Napa, Calif., Susan D. (Harry) Erickson of Marquette, and John C. (Cindy) Sherman-Jones of Limestone. They also have five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The couple resides in Escanaba.
