ESCANABA - William and Margorie (Mankee) Jewell celebrated 50 years of marriage June 28, during an anniversary reception in their honor at Irish Oaks. The couple's three children hosted the event.
In attendance at the anniversary celebration were matron of honor Mrs. Kathy (Wesley) Mankee, sister-in-law of the bride, and bridesmaid Janet (Stan) Franson, friend of the bride, all of whom attended at the 1958 nuptials. David Nordin, friend of the couple, gave the anniversary invocation and served as emcee for the evening.
William was employed for 31 years with the Michigan Department of Social Services, prior to his retirement in 1993. He has been a member of Central United Methodist Church since 1968, and is also a member of Kiwanis, Elks and the American Legion.

Marjorie was employed by Escanaba Area Public Schools. After 15 years as a teacher's assistant at Franklin School, she retired in 1993. Marjorie is a 40-year member of Central United Methodist Church.
Bill and Marjorie have three children - David (Angie) Jewell of Charlotte, Mich., Janice (John) Viera if Howie-in-the-Hill, Fla., and Cheryl (William) Smith of Escanaba. In addition, the couple has six grandchildren - Meggie and Olivia Jewell, John Jr. and Mallory Viera, and Jana and Colin Smith.
