‘Cutest Pet’ contest winners announced

ESCANABA — The Delta County Animal Society announces the top three winners in its month-long Cutest Pet Picture Contest. The event attracted over 60 entrants, each of which had the chance to be voted on by the general public. Pictures were displayed in the Delta Plaza Mall throughout the month of April, and money was deposited in correspondence with the pet being chosen “cutest” by each voter.

In the end, those pictures that garnered the most money were recorded as first-, second- and third-place winners. Earning top billing for 2008 was “Miss Abby,” owned by Michael and DelJean Kadletz. Second place went to “Ace Godzilla,” whose owner, Nicholas Ramos, also donated his birthday and allowance money to the Animal Shelter. Last, but certainly not least, was “Rocky,” owned by sisters Danielle and Heather Kennan.

A total of $841.40 was raised from the event, all of which will be applied to the organization’s major goal of spaying and neutering all its pets.

The Animal Society has already begun discussing plans for a new contest, “Cutest Pet in a Costume,” which would be scheduled to run through the month of October. Details about the new contest will be announced once the plans are finalized.

The community is reminded that the Animal Shelter remains in constant need of such supplies as kitty litter, and the public is encouraged to make donations whenever possible.
