U.P. golf goes national
Dennis Grall, sports editor
ESCANABA — Three Upper Peninsula golf courses have received attention from another national golf magazine. Golf Magazine has devoted one page in its August issue to two photos and very brief comments on Sweetgrass Golf Club in Harris, Iron Mountain TimberStone and Marquette Greywalls. The pictures show two extremely challenging par three holes, No. 6 at Greywalls and No. 7 at Sweetgrass. Each course received a one paragraph review. Included in the “Trips” portion that details long weekend golf visits, the item by senior editor Michael Walker is headlined Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The drop head is lower case type reads “The locals like to say that this is God’s area code - but the golf will make a believer out of any jaded traveler.” There is a lengthier paragraph giving a general idea about U.P. golf and life in general beneath that headlin.
