Island plans $2 million expansion
HARRIS — The Island Resort and Casino has announced a $2 million project to expand and renovate its current convention center. According to Facilities Director Bob Mattson, the development will extend the center’s current square footage from 9,500 to more than 17,400. The present seating capacity of 350 will increase to comfortably seat 836. Once completed, the convention center will allow for concurrent events with a combination of five floor plans. The blueprint includes the remodeling and redesign of existing roof, interior walls and new restroom facilities. The blueprint also reflects new bar, storage and food service areas. State-of-the-art heating, ventilation and air conditioning, along with sound systems, are also included in the renovation plans. The new convention center will also house a hospitality room and a courtyard for use during social functions. New facades will be built on existing structures.
