Many Republicans just can’t seem to get out of their own way
EDITOR: I am writing this at 2 p.m. Sunday. It must be noted that the great Rev. James Dobson and his followers have been praying for terrible weather for a month. Ah, the power of prayer! Rev. Jimmie can stop praying, now. The horrible weather he prayed for missed Denver on Thursday but is heading for New Orleans to highlight one of the great achievements of the Bush administration — ironically, on the first day of Republican Convention. And God is a Republican? Mr. Bush is on top of the situation this time. He is already having trucks loaded with money to take to Republican operative Haley Barbour. Haley’s figuring out (with his accountants) how much profit he should make on this cleanup (cleanup is the right word here). Eighty percent like last time, or crank it up to 90 percent? Those Mexican(s) ... don’t need minimum wage, anyway. Trucks loaded with drinking water and ice are already halfway to Idaho or wherever they sent them last time. Heck of a job, Brownie.
