Wedding coordinators are a 'godsend'
ESCANABA - At least one local church has the good fortune to have a wedding coordinaton on staff to assist couples with their wedding plans, and, according to New Life Assembly of God pastor, Rev. Robert Derheim, the planner has proven to be a God send to his church. "She (Shirley Benson) goes through the pre-service with the couple, as well as the rehearsals and finally the wedding," said Derhiem. "She works with them throughout and helps them with anything they might need." Derheim said the coordinator also helps the couple and their families with ideas and suggestions, including decorating tips. "She's relieved a lot of the work for me," said Derheim He said any couple desiring to be married in his church are required to comply with the standards the church and its pastor have determined to be important. "We have a list that we present to the bride and groom who want to use our church that pretty much spells out what we allow and don't allow," said Derheim.
