Russell A. Kanerva

MARQUETTE — Russell A. Kanerva, 94, of Marquette, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2019, at U.P. Health System Marquette.
Russell was born in Gwinn on April 24, 1924, to the late John and Hulda (Murtomaki) Kanerva. He was a graduate of Gwinn High School and was a Navy veteran of World War II. He retired from Enstrom Helicopter in Memominee, Mich. Russell was a past member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Menominee, Skandia Lutheran Church in Skandia, and Grace Lutheran Church in Gwinn.
Surviving are one son, John Kanerva of Marquette; two stepsons, Douglas (Joan) Isaacson of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Eugene (Sudea) Isaacson of California; five grandchildren, Iris Kanerva Robare, Jay, Gena, Eric, and Jesse; four great-grandchildren, Chantel, Shayna, Briana and Amanda, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Elvera, second wife, Mae, and three brothers, Toivo, John, and Leo Kanerva.
Family and friends may call at the Perala Funeral Home in Negaunee on Wednesday, March 13, from 11 a.m. until noon. Interment will be in the Gwinn Cemetery with a graveside service in the spring.
