Sharon ‘Sherri’ Joanne (Adams) Johnson

CORBIN, Ky. — Sharon “Sherri” Joanne (Adams) Johnson, 76, of Corbin, Ky., passed away on Dec., 24, 2017, after a lengthy battle with cancer at Bluegrass Care Center in Hazard, Ky., with her family by her side.

Sherri was born July 1, 1941, to Kenneth B. and Esther (Eliason) Adams. She was raised in north Escanaba, and she attended Escanaba High School and Bay de Noc Community College.

Sherri was a friend to everyone. When you met her, she touched you in a very special way. Her kindness and loving smile will always be remembered.

She was united in marriage to Edward Garcia on March 17, 1963. She and Eddie lived in Redwood City, Calif., for a number of years. They had two children, Natalie Ann and Rick. Eddie and Rick preceded Sherri in death.

Sherri met and married James (Jim) Johnson in 1980. They had three children — David, Brian, and Traci Jean. Traci died shortly after birth. Jim passed away on Nov. 3, 2008.

Sherri lived and worked in many locations including Arizona, California, North Dakota, and Michigan before she and Jim made their home in Corbin, Ky. Her jobs included being a teacher’s aide, being an Avon lady, and working at Northern Contours in Corbin.

Sherri was an avid doll collector. She made a number of beautiful dolls. She was also an avid gardener –growing strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries. Sherri designed and made beautiful jewelry. She enjoyed reading, working jigsaw puzzles, and traveling. Sherri loved to take long walks.

Sherri was also preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Billy and Bruce Adams, and her sister, Mary Sue (Adams) Smith. Sherri’s survivors include her children– Natalie Ann O’Dell, David (Laura) Johnson, and Brian Johnson; her sister, Esther Jean (Ted) Dillinger and Carolyn (Art) Beauvais; her stepbrothers, Emil Johnson and Paul (Sherry) Johnson; her sister-in-law, Barbara (Dale) Constantino; her grandchildren, Leigh Ann O’Dell, Rachel (Kyle) Polley, and Jacob Kinnart; her great-grandchildren, Natalee, Nikkiah, and Oliver Brown; her aunt, Lois Johnson; her cat, Bingo; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Cremation has taken place and Sherri and Jim’s ashes will be interred at Lakeview Cemetery in Escanaba. A memorial service for Sherri will be hosted by her children at a later date.
